Chaton

A chaton is a small mostly gold setting for the friction jewels. Use from the 1940 on when syntatic jewels were being used. It was easier to fit the jewel into the movement plate with the gold ring als filling then make everything the exat size. Now you only see this technique used in the most high grade watches. Often there are 3 small screws used to keep everything in place. This also added to the estatics of the watch movement.
