Manufacture d'horlogerie

In the Swiss watch industry, this French term names companies where the watch manufacturer produces in-house all the major parts and components of a watch (particularly the "ébauches"). Opposite from a "manufactory" which is to an "assembler" who merely puts together movements from parts acquired elsewhere, times and adjusts the movements, and fits on the hands and cases them up.
